Background
Kaleb comes from a law enforcement family. His parents had been part of the first wave of settlers to the Eden Colony where they were both part of the Civil Defense department that policed the new colony. Kaleb and his twin sister were born into an already large family, with an older brother and three older sisters and later a younger brother and sister. All of the older siblings were in military or public service, usually in law enforcement or adjacent positions. Kaleb followed his older brother into the Expeditionary Forces, enrolling in the colonial academy on Eden and becoming a member of the military police.
On one of earliest assignments, Kaleb wound up assisting his father and mother on an investigation of organized crime groups smuggling a new type of drug into the colony. They succeeded in breaking up the smuggling ring, with both his parents receiving the bulk of the credit. Unfortunately the criminal syndicate behind the smuggling operation was far larger and more powerful than the family had realized and soon Kaleb's parents had become targets of assassination.
For their own protection Kaleb's parents were taken into witness protection and relocated to another Earth colony under new identities. The older siblings understood the situation but the younger two, who would have to be relocated and also given new identities with their parents, blamed Kaleb for the disruption in their lives. For his part Kaleb also needed to be relocated, as Eden was no longer safe for him. Kaleb was posted to an Expeditionary Forces base on Haven, one of the newest and most remote colony worlds, where he was assigned to the base security team.
Being separated from his family, especially his twin sister, was difficult for Kaleb so he has been working at building up relationships on Haven. The separation eased somewhat when Bill Preston, an old school friend from Eden colony, relocated to Haven and the two renewed their friendship. A pair of colonists, sisters Siona and Erica Alvarez, have "adopted" Kaleb into their family as a surrogate little brother, though technically he would be a middle brother as Erica is younger than him, and this has also helped.
Kaleb is also close with his partner, MP Cpl. Kelly O'Reilly, who also comes from a family with a tradition in law enforcement. Kaleb and Kelly have been assigned to work security for a military R&D project taking place at the Expeditionary Forces Gamma Base on Haven.
