New Generation Who's Who - Egan Yune

Background

Egan Yune is the second son of Earth Force hero Admiral Tyson Yune, a child of his second wife. The Admiral began his military career in the UN naval forces before transitioning to the newly formed Space Corps, which would become the nucleus of the Robotech Defense Force. He served with distinction during the First Robotech War, then became a commanding officer in the Expeditionary Forces before rising to the position of one of the senior flag officers in the Invid War. Admiral Yune had two children from his first wife, who was killed by Anti-Unification terrorists in the attack that destroyed Mars Base Sara. Both these children, the eldest Christina and the first born son Dylan, followed their father's example and joined the military.

Egan and his fraternal twin sister Juliana were born on Luna Base on Earth's moon, each claiming he or she is the elder twin (only their mother knew for sure and never told). Their mother, Karen, was an Earth Force officer who married their father in 2007 and went into semi-retirement to help raise his two children, and later her own by him. The twins have a younger sister, Sophie, who is eight years their junior. Egan's mother was killed in 2020 by Zentraedi Malcontents, while his father was on a deep space exploration mission. The three young children were raised by family friends on board the Robotech Factory Satellite until the departure of the Pioneer Mission, at which point they were sent to the Eden colony to be closer to their father (the elder children, Christina and Dylan, had already entered the Robotech Academy at this point). Egan's father remarried again in 2025, shortly before Egan and Juliana were accepted in the Robotech Academy themselves. This third marriage has given Egan two more siblings, half-sister Ariana (born in 2026) and young half-brother Rhys (born in 2035).

When they were both old enough, Egan and Juliana also entered military academy. While Juliana excelled, eventually being selected as a Veritech pilot, Egan frequently encountered problems in the high-discipline environment. Egan's time at the academy also served to acerbate the boy's relationship with his older half-brother Dylan, who was completing his own studies at the academy. The patient and calculating Dylan felt that Egan's frequent "act first, think later" actions reflected badly on his own carefully established reputation. In the end, rather than let himself be passed through the academy because of his father's reputation, Egan chose a different path and joined the Expeditionary Forces Marines, where he trained as a battloid pilot, in order to make his own mark rather than taking the easy way out.

Unfortunately Egan could not completely escape his father's shadow. Officers were often fearful of putting an admiral's son in danger, so Egan was usually assigned routine missions or sent on "milk runs" despite his skill and desire for real combat experience. Every attempt Egan made to get transferred to a unit involved on the front lines was blocked. He even went so far as to try and get assigned to Recon 1, a ship heading back to Earth in response to a distress signal from Space Station Liberty, but his own half-sister Christina, an officer on Recon 1, blocked the transfer. Egan would later learn that Christina was killed along with most of the rest of the crew of Recon 1 when they encountered the Robotech Masters fleet then attacking Earth.

Things finally changed when one officer decided to take a chance on Egan and assigned him to a Bioroid Squad heading into a combat zone. At the Battle of Garridan Prime, Egan was instrumental in saving a group of Zentraedi pilots from an Invid ambush. His actions earned him an officer's commission as well as the respect of many Zentraedi warriors in the Expeditionary Forces. With his skill in combat proven, Egan was able to see more action on the front lines, though the looming spectre of his father remained and prevented him from being sent into heavy combat areas. Eventually Egan was promoted to full lieutenant and assigned command of the Bioroid squadron attached to the Garfish class cruiser Odyssey. While the Odyssey primarily does the colony patrol circuit, it still encounters the odd Invid threat.

Egan is generally easy-going, even in combat where he maintains his cool (though he is occasionally prone to taking risks other officers would avoid). His manner has earned him many friends, but those closest to him have stood by him since his academy days: Greg Perkins is now a Marine Sergeant on another Garfish cruiser, while Sandra Kaminski is a Condor pilot attached to one of the space stations. Egan has also become friends with academy instructor Master Sergeant Cassius Riggs who was one of the few teachers who did not let the identity of Egan's father affect his opinion of the young cadet. Egan has also maintained a close friendship with his high school sweetheart on Eden, Vanessa; and is also very close with his twin sister. Beyond his circle of friends, Egan has also earned some valuable contacts in the Expeditionary Forces. The first is Marine Colonel George Samson, the officer who first took a chance on Egan and the second is his current commanding officer, Captain Burnett of the Odyssey. Not everyone is as fond of Egan as these people, though. He has earned the enmity of another battloid pilot, Lt. Michael Vincent, who believes that Egan's current command assignment should have been his and that Egan was given it over him because he is an admiral's son. Egan also has a frosty relationship with his half-brother Dylan, who always felt that their father preferred Egan over himself. Dylan is a fleet Commander, the executive officer on the Tokugawa class Agamemnon.
